Today, I'm interviewing Kristin Tyler. She's a founding partner of a respected law firm in Las Vegas as well as a co-founder of an innovative start-up designed to turn the legal services marketplace on its head.

We talk about pursuing multiple passions, juggling a family and two careers, when and how to scratch your entrepreneurial itch, and the work she's doing to help disrupt the legal industry for good.

You'll especially want to listen if:

  • you're at a small or mid-size firm and you struggle with balancing a heavy caseload with the cost of bringing on new attorneys, or
  • you've ever thought about being a freelance attorney but don't know where to begin and don't want to work for a staffing agency

I’m also excited to finally announce the Grand Prize for the upcoming Get It Done Challenge, taking place from April 2nd to April 6th. Sign up at www.getitdonechallenge.com

Today's episode is inspired by a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey where she discussed the "disease to please." I couldn't believe I hadn't addressed people-pleasing before so today we're doing a deep-dive on the topic. In this episode, you’ll learn how you acquired this disease and what steps to follow if you want to stop putting everyone else first.

Things you will learn in this episode:

  • Why lawyers seem to be especially susceptible to the “disease to please”
  • How being a high-achiever sets you up for a lifetime of people-pleasing
  • Why positive reinforcement and negative corrections during childhood impact our ability to be neutral as adults
  • What to expect from others when you start addressing your "disease"
  • The 5-step process to follow if you want to learn how to start saying no to others

For today’s show, I’m going to outline how you can make equity partner if that is something that you want. I’ll be sharing what the path will look like, how to prepare and execute a plan, as well as the role that your mindset is going to play in this process.

Things you will learn in this episode:

  • Why more people should be aiming to apply and become equity partners

  • The very first question you’ll need to ask yourself and why documenting it will be so helpful

  • How the plan to equity differs from the path to partnership plan

  • Ways that you can gather information about the process and what the formal and informal rules are

  • Be flexible! You can’t plan this path perfectly, as there are too many variables to consider…
  • Four ways that you can get people behind you and your campaign

In this episode, I’m sharing my top four takeaways from the recent Traffic & Conversion Summit in San Diego. Even if you don’t use online marketing in your practice, I always feel there’s something to learn from other industries and this event gave lots of lessons that can be applied to your legal practice.
